Fear. It’s always lurking — hiding behind procrastination, fuelling embarrassment, driving insecurity. It’s at the core of rejection, lethargy, and even our miserly moments.

Make no mistake, every time you hold back or opt out, fear is the puppeteer.

My relatively free WFH day yesterday turned into an impromptu IPL watch session. I am by no means a cricket fan, but hey, I had time to burn. So I flicked on the telly and absorbed a quite fascinating play-by-play of the human psyche. The underdogs of the game, with virtually no chance to win, played with reckless abandon. It’s like they couldn’t care less what happened. They simply swung hard, with conviction, over and over and over again.

They didn’t clinch victory, but they came shockingly close.

This is what struck me: fear is what holds us back. The proverbial, omnipresent, invisible handbrake on our performance.

To live truly, we must live fearlessly. Letting fear guide your decisions is like driving with the handbrake on — it’s safe, sure, but you’ll never hit full speed. You’ll never know how fast you can go, how far you can travel.

Living without fear doesn’t mean living without caution. It means not letting fear decide…
