Excellent article Alexa - I write about nonfiction books as you know and you have definitely given me a few pointers to append to my list. Thanks for that! I admire how you juxtaposed so many different themes and perspecties into a single, coherent, lucid blogpost! Well done and thanks for inspiring me to read more and read wide!
My reverence of our part-fragile, mostly-resillient human body is mostly due to recently reading Bill Bryson's unputdownable "The Body". Some takeaways from it: 50% of us will have cancer at some point. Race is 2mm of the epidermis. We are born 100% human; we die 98% alien. Stretching out our DNA would take us beyond Pluto. Bones produce hormones. We used to die of hunger and malnutrition, we now die of overindulgence and lifestyle. Evidence suggests having good and loving relationships physically alters your DNA. Not having any, doubles your risk of dying from any cause.
I'd be delighted if you'd read my article of tangential thoughts and let me know what you think!
