In a world obsessed with the image of altruism, selfishness stands as the rogue trait, undeniably magnetic.

It’s the elephant in the room, both condemned and covertly admired.

The question nags: Is there a hidden allure to putting oneself first, to the unapologetic prioritization of personal needs over others’? It seems counterintuitive, yet history’s ledger and today’s headlines are littered with individuals who’ve carved empires from the stone of self-interest.

Why is it that a dash of disagreeableness commands attention, sparks a grudging respect?

Consider the raw power of a simple “no.” It’s a full stop, a boundary drawn in the sand. Deploy it, and observe the ripple effect: shock, respect, and a recalibration of dynamics. It’s as if natural selection itself penned a love letter to self-preservation, endorsing those who wield their will like a scepter.

But wait, doesn’t every fairy tale champion the good-hearted protagonist? Society’s script tells us that the ‘nice guy’ is the hero, yet the subplot often suggests otherwise. Nice guys, it seems, are the supporting cast in a drama dominated by those who take the lead, for better or worse.
