Somewhat tangentially, my thoughts on death and dying is from Atul Gawande's excellent "Being Mortal":

In 1945, most deaths happened at home. In 1980, only 17% did. Around 100,000 years ago, we died before we hit 30. In the last 200 years, this has steadily crept up. In the last few decades, we live beyond 80.

Dying at a ripe, old age is unnatural."

I'd appreciate if you can spare the time to read my thoughts on the book! Promise you it's releant to your excellent writing - especially the folding shirt analogy: the psychological gobbledegook for this phenomon is called the "pleasure of being the cause". And it's opposite: "the trauma of failed influence".
